Big Band Sound Produces a Big Time at The Albemarle

Earlier this month, The Albemarle hosted our Annual Fish Fry. This event brings residents and guests together to dine on some of the best fried fish around made by our Chef. Since the weather was so nice, the residents could choose to dine inside or on our outdoor patio which gave dinner such a nice ambiance. To add onto that, after dinner, the residents were treated to a special performance by the Leon Jordan Continentals outside under the portico. This band was first formed in 1957 and plays as a 16 piece orchestra but also offers smaller arrangements as well. The band leader, Leon Jordan, had just been discharged from the Navy, and wanted to start a band that played dance music, since so many other bands in the area were playing jazz. Because of this, their popularity quickly grew. Many of the members and former members are notable musicians even once playing beside the likes of Frank Sinatra and Lawrence Welk. Even though we had a smaller version of the original band, they were able to produce that big band sound that our residents love so much. Our residents spent the night dancing away and we look forward to seeing the Continentals again!
